Summary Statement

This OSHA video covers the promulgation of the revised silica standard, which was published on Mar 25, 2016. The YouTube video starts with a clip from a 1938 film the Department of Labor produced titled "Stop Silicosis" in which Secretary Frances Perkins explains that a scientific panel had just produced a report concluded that silica dust was dangerous, but that it could be prevented. The report highlighted the control technologies that could be employed, the same technologies that we use today, primarily water and ventilation. Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez is featured speaking at the International Masonry Institute during the official release of the OSHA standard.
