A partnership of property owners, contractors, designers, university researchers, and construction unions was among 10 nominees for the NORA Partnering Award 2003, presented by NIOSH. The partnership, which includes Intel Corporation, Hoffman Construction Company of Oregon, Oregon State University, and the University of Oregon, has used contractor input throughout a factory's planning and design to build in protections for workers and cut costs. The Life Cycle Safety initiative used more built-in anchorage points, extra work space for construction workers, and some off-site fabrication to reduce onsite exposures.
