NIOSH, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, since 1982 has investigated hundreds of work-related deaths and produces FACE reports (Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation) with recommendations to better protect workers. More than 400 of the reports about construction have been combined on the NIOSH web site. Topics include falls, electrocutions, confined spaces (carbon monoxide and other toxic fumes), excavation and trench collapses, scaffolds, ladders, decapitation, crushing, and struck by and involve such work as apprentice, boilermaker, carpenter, cement finisher, drill operator, electrician, elevator mechanic, estimator, flagger, glazier, handyman, heavy equipment operator, highway worker, inspector, insulator, ironworker, laborer, mason, owner, painter, pipefitter, plumber, roofer, sheet metal helper, tile setter, and welder.
