CPWR report on the main findings of a three-year study comparing the effectiveness of differing safety and health requirements for painters in three states -- Alaska, Oregon, and Washington. The study shows Alaska's mandatory Hazardous Painting Certification Standard is more effective in reaching a broad cross-section of painters, improves self-protective behaviors against solvents and other hazards, and costs less per painter than voluntary training in the two other states.
